This half term we are learning about space. We have been studying the book Earth Dance by Joanne Ryder.
We have also been reading books written by the authour John Burningham. So far we have read Aldo, Harvey Slumfenburger's Christmas Present, John Patrick Norman McHennessy - The Boy Who Was Always Late, The Shopping Basket, Time to Get Out of the Bath Shirley, Avocado Baby and Courtney. We have all thoroughly enjoyed these stories but after taking a vote, our favourite John Burningham book so far has been Avocado Baby.
In maths this term we have been learning about time, looking at days of the week, months, seasons, o'clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past! We have been busy! We have recently moved on to look at 2D and 3D shapes.
As a class we created a musical composition based on a rocket's journey to space and back. We planned out what sounds we wanted for our piece and decided upon:

In PE this term we are making and performing dances to link in with our theme on space. So far we have performed the birth of a planet, the movement of the moon through the night sky, and the path of the planets through the solar system.
We have been studying the lives of famous space explorers. The four people that we have looked at have been Yuri Gagarin, Neil Armstrong, Laika the dog and Dafydd Rhys Williams. Each group has made our own A2 display poster sequencing the lives of these amazing humans (and one dog!).
We have been making moon buggies by using recycled objects. Instead of throwing away our plastic milk bottles in the morning, we have washed them out and used them as the frame for making our moon buggies. We have wrapped them in silver foil and used the bottle tops and straws as wheels and axles.
